The Tiree Development Plan will lay out a means by which a sustainable and vibrant island community could be achieved for future generations.

To be successful, the Plan will need to consider, balance and integrate all the views and aspirations of those who live on, visit and have responsibility for the island.

Through its work, TDP will attempt to engage all members of the Tiree community in the production of the Plan. Workshops, Open Days, publications and an interactive website will be used to involve people, with the aim of launching the Plan in the Autumn of 2004.

Through the Plan, all ideas will be drawn together into realistic project and community development proposals and programmes which TDP then hopes to make a reality.

The Plan will be a valuable asset to Tiree. In addition to the added-value of having in place a widely agreed and co-ordinated way forward for the island, it will demonstrate to all government and public bodies that the people of Tiree know what they want.

It will also help in the search for funding. Many funders now insist that any project or initiative seeking assistance must complement or be supported by such a community development plan.

Private businesses can also benefit when their own aspirations complement and enhance the aspirations of the community in which they operate.

A lot has been achieved on Tiree over the last 5 years and much continues to be done by many. TDP is not intending to duplicate or replace past, existing or planned work. It will build on, learn from and complement all other plans, projects and groups to help resolve the underlying strategic issues that hinder and slow progress. In this way resources, funding and voluntary effort will be maximised for the future benefit of Tiree.

Most of all, if the Plan is going to be successful, we need your input. By working together as a community we can make a difference.
